Welcome, our Sister in Sugar (too much?)

First of all, your eyebrows look amazing.

Sugar Sober About | Laura and Hanna together with flowers

Hi! We’re Laura and Hanna.

We’re sisters - a Clinical Nutritionist (Laura, big sister) and a Food Sociologist MS (Hanna, little sister) - who literally put ourselves through grad school and clinical rotations to find answers to questions like:

  • How do I trust myself with an open bag of sour cream and onion chips?

  • Why can’t I stop making trips back and forth to the freezer for scoops of ice cream like a scurrying kitchen squirrel?

  • How do I eat healthy but not constantly diet?...is that an oxymoron?

  • WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HANDS?!

Also, did we mention we were military kids? We lived in 8 states by the time we graduated high school and attended 6 colleges in undergrad alone (ok, maybe there’s a commitment issue).

After 20 years ping-ponging across the nation and working with over 700 nutrition clients, we can confidently report:

women everywhere are all working really hard to keep the same secret from one another - we feel out of control with food.

At Sugar Sober, we believe the problem with food isn’t the food - it’s what you’re doing with the food. This means the problem is behavior, not diet.

Simply put, there is no diet that can cure problematic eating for good.

We know because we looked - we’ve downloaded every wellness app ever made (or it sure as hell felt like it), attended an ungodly number of programs, and read a metric shit ton of peer-reviewed journal articles (did we mention we got Master’s degrees? Did we?!).

We can report from a combined decade of working as a Nutritionist (Laura) and a Sociologist (Hanna) that it’s an artful combination of of behavior science, culture, culinary skills, and a hefty sprinkling of epicurean delights that serves up a life of peace, confidence, and control of food.

That’s why we created Sugar Sober - to be the bridge to help you gain the confidence and skills you need to break the overeating cycle and outsmart the diet spiral so you can live as the Bonne Vivante you are.

This is exactly what you’ve been searching for, and it doesn’t exist without you.

You’re knocking on the right door if you want to break out of food addiction and outsmart the diet spiral so you can live as the Bonne Vivante you are!

*cheers to that*

Sugar Sober is a online clubhouse and school (like a salon, dahhhling *1940s debutante voice*). Here, you’ll find trainings, group programs, and lessons that teach you how to stop hiding Valentine’s chocolates in your skirt pockets and speed eating them in the locked bathroom.

And the biggest promise of all - you’ll never start a new diet on Monday again. Gone are the days of chicken and broccoli tupperware, chalky meal-replacement shakes, and awkwardly turning down your friend’s homemade mac ‘n cheese because it doesn’t fit your diet.

You’re meant to be a bonne vivante,

tasting locally made wine on a hillside at sunset, your mind enthralled with tradition, stories, and belly-aching jokes, your heart connected to your hosts and friends.

Not,

preoccupied with how tight the waist of your pants are, how many carbs are in abuelita’s tres leches cake, or debating that midnight convenience store pit stop because you already broke your diet so WHAT THE HELL might as well binge.

Bonnes vivantes don’t binge…and they definitely don’t diet.

Sugar Sober’s DEFINITELY for you if you want to:

✔️ Live a life with food that is peaceful, confident, and includes “a little touch of sweet” (as our grandma used to say after dinner)

✔️ Get control of your eating without abandoning who you really are, ignoring what you like, or changing your personality to keto-sportsbra-lady 🤾‍♀️.

✔️ Break the food secrets that previously kept you hidden in shame (hint: this is the first step to come out as a Bonne Vivante)

✔️ Learn step-by-step processes to get control of your eating that are proven and actually doable (❌ no 1,200 calorie meal plans allowed! ❌)

✔️Have fun while healing your food addiction. Can you even imagine?! Fun putting in the time and attention to heal?! Fun while getting raw and real? Sounds like a roaring good time to us! We’ll bring the champagne!

✔️ Get a real human response to questions, concerns, and requests that arise as you go through the process. (Yes, we’re real people who breathe, type, and sometimes crack a terrible joke).

✔️ Receive information and tools you can’t find anywhere else - no one else is talking about this stuff. Maybe a little “diets don’t work, rah rah!” but that’s as far as it goes…

✔️ Get energized with support from a cozy crew of badass women who get it - whether it’s a celebration, confession, or pick-me-up.

All of these are the inherent result of applying behavior change science to problem eating - which is exactly what we teach, step by step.

OFFICIAL BIO

Laura and Hanna - AKA “the Sailor-mouthed Sisters Solving America’s Sugar Addiction” - joined forces post-pandemic to found Sugar Sober, an edgy online school that teaches women how to break out of food addiction and outsmart the diet spiral so they can live as the Bonne Vivante they were meant to be (cheers to that!). The sisters bring a unique perspective to the diet conversation thanks to their combined 15 year careers in clinical nutrition (Laura) and sociology (Hanna). Together they launched the school in response to watching their Gen X and Millennial peers jump eagerly into the body positive, anti-diet culture wave, but struggle without something solid to hold onto.

Their signature program, Chaos to Control: Stop compulsive overeating and get your life back, teaches behavior change science specifically for food addicts and overeaters in a way that’s fun and un-screwup-able. They’ve been featured in Bustle, Elite Daily, and the Chicks Who Give a Hoot podcast. And their mom once commented on their blog, “This is the best thing I ever read!”
